In Malaysia, Klang or Kelang is the former capital and the royal town of Klang. Before Kuala Lumpur and Shah Alam being established, it was the capital of Selangor. Klang Port, located in the district of Klang, is the world’s 12th busiest transhipment port and 12th busiest container port.
The city has grown tremendously in recent years and it has an increasing population. It is considered one of the most modern cities in Malaysia. The town is famous for its rubber plantations, tin mines, automotive industry and palm oil mills. This city attracts Malaysians from all over the country with promises of more opportunities and better life quality.
Klang came into existence in 1857 when tin miners built their thatched huts around tin smelting works, which was located at the junction of the Klang and Sungai Langat rivers. The name Klang derives from the word “klangeh” meaning “tin mine”. As time passed, more people moved to live there and it became an important trading centre for rubber, tin ore, palm oil, coffee beans and gambier (to make black pepper). The tin mining operations had their own administrative centre, which grew into its own town, with houses for miners and their families, churches, mosques and other amenities.
As Klang’s population grew, it became part of the municipality on 1 January 1925. The town is now considered one of Malaysia’s oldest townships.
The city of Klang was the first planned industrial area in Malaysia. It is located in the state of Selangor, near Kuala Lumpur. The city of Klang was set up by the British to provide an industrial base for the tin-mining industry in Malaysia, which was concentrated on the island of Penang. There were many tin mining operations around Klang Valley including Kinta Valley, Ampang and Batu Hijau.
The original purpose of Klang town was to act as a trading post for tin traders coming from Kuantan and Singapore. However, it soon became one of Malaysia’s most important industrial centres with its economy largely based on the manufacturing industry.
Today Klang is the most important centre of the Malaysian economy. With a population of more than one million. It is home to some of Malaysia’s largest companies and has some of its busiest ports.
Klang is also the site for Malaysia’s heavy industries – including oil, petrochemicals, steel, and cement – all of which are required for the country’s development.
Economic growth has led to industries growing throughout Malaysia. This has given rise to employment opportunities. With every new organization being established, the need for qualified HR professionals has also increased.
